Rapid Program / District Grant
In der langen Planungsphase des großen Global Grant mit ca. USD 140.000 zur Umsetzung des Biokohle Projekts kam es immer wieder zu Verzögerungen. Um trotz der intensiven Vorbereitungen vor Ort und den Zusagen, die im Zuge dieser Vorbereitungen gemacht wurden, glaubwürdig zu bleiben, mussten wir im vergangenen Jahr handeln. Im Dezember 2023 haben wir berichtet, das das Projekt in enger Abstimmung und Zusammenarbeit mit dem Rotary Club Aachen dreigeteilt wurde. Wir starteten mit dem Rapid Program, welches dann bis Mai 2024 vom District Grant abgelöst wird. Im Mai 2024 startet dann der Global Grant mit einer Laufzeit von 2 Jahren. Im Rapid Program konnten wir bis jetzt 40 Systeme finanzieren. Über den District Grant haben wir 9 Dörfer trainiert. Aktuell liegt der Fokus auf Terra Preta, also der Beimischung von Kohle und Dung in den Feldboden sowie einem organischen Dünger. Ab Mai geht es dann weiter mit Business Trainings und Kohle Produktion zur Einkommenssteigerung. Die Akzeptanz der Trainings ist hoch und die Menschen sind sehr interessiert an nachhaltiger Kohle und Landwirtschaft.
During the long planning phase for the large global grant of around USD 140,000 to implement the biochar project, there were repeated delays. In order to remain credible despite the intensive preparations on site and the promises made in the course of these preparations, we had to take action last year. In December 2023, we reported that the project had been divided into three parts in close coordination and cooperation with the Rotary Club of Aachen. We started with the Rapid Program, which will then be replaced by the District Grant in May 2024. The Global Grant will then start in May 2024 with a term of 2 years. We have been able to finance 40 systems in the Rapid Program so far. We have trained 9 villages through the District Grant. The current focus is on Terra Preta, i.e. the addition of coal and manure to the soil and an organic fertilizer. From May, we will continue with business training and charcoal production to increase income. Acceptance of the training courses is high and people are very interested in sustainable coal and agriculture.
